Tracey Emin, My Bed 1998

I wrote a quick paper on Tracey Emin’s My Bed and the theme of assimilation. Here’s a small bit:

"Even further into the theme is the showing of what come before - the art object. We can not help but think of Robert Rauschenberg’s Bed 1955, when we look at Emin’s piece. My Bed takes some of the same ideas Rauschenberg was working with and the use of someone’s personal, used, object, but takes it off the wall and places it into the gallery space; the latter idea coming from Judd and the minimalists. Emin’s My Bed is exactly what it is and needs no layers of abstraction.”
